Classes

Every class has it's own spells, abilities, and style of play. Some are more rugged and ready for melee combat while others are more casting-oriented. Only certain classes are available to each of the races.

[edit] Druid

Also see: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/druid_spells/">Druid Spells</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/build_suggestions_druid/">Talent Build Suggestions</a>

The druids of the Cenarion Circle are an ancient sect who strive to preserve the balance of nature. They possess powerful magic and healing spells as well as the ability to shapeshift into various animal forms. The druid is a hybrid class, making it a jack of all trades, but a master of none.

Class Role:
The Druid has three potential roles in a group. When in their normal, biped form, they act well as a healer and can give support in the form of buffs and debuffs; they also have limited crowd control against dragons. Their Bear form gives them offensive and defensive power enough to step up to a monster and take the hits (we're looking into aggro management for the form). In Cat form, the Druid becomes a damage dealer. This trio of roles in one class gives the Druid a diverse feel and allows them to perform nearly any role perceived as "needed" in a party.

Strengths:

  • Can transform into various animal forms which provide unique abilities
  • Early access to fast travel prior to mount being available
  • Can heal and resurrect others during battle
  • Can shapeshift out of snares and out of Polymorph
  • Possesses a powerful buff that's beneficial to all classes

Weaknesses:

  • Animal forms are not as powerful as their counterpart classes
  • Restricted to wearing cloth and leather armor
  • Cannot use all items or spells while in the various animal forms

Eligible Races: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/night_elves/">Night Elf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/tauren/">Tauren</a>

Standard Bars: Health/Mana (Druid form/Aquatic form), Health/Rage (Bear form), Health/Energy (Cat form)

Armor: Cloth, Leather

Weapons: Staves, Maces (with training), Daggers (with training),
Unarmed Weapons (with training)

Suitable Professions: A good combination of professions for a druid is Skinning and Leatherworking. Skinning is a good way to gather material for profit and for use in Leatherworking. Since leather is as far as druids can go you will be able to create good equipment for yourself. Herbalism and Alchemy is another good combo for druids because druids start off with a 15 points bonus to their herbalism ability.

[edit] Hunter

Also see: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/hunter_spells/">Hunter Spells</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/build_suggestions_hunter/">Talent Build Suggestions</a>

Hunters are at one with nature. They have honed their survival skills in the wild and from this learned to befriendnd beasts to then use as partners in combat. Hunters are primarily long range fighters, excelling with a bow or a gun. As well as animals they use traps that are triggered when an enemy walks by it which helps the hunter keep their distance.

Class Role
The Hunter is a vicious damage dealer. With their ability to pull extremely well and hit monsters hard from far away, they certainly help take down monsters more quickly. Their pets add to the damage count and can aid somewhat in managing monster aggro. The variety of traps allows the Hunter to control crowds to an extent, as well. The combination of their extreme range, decent damage, and trap capability, Hunters are the perfect pullers for any group.

Strengths:

  • Can tame and control various beasts
  • Excellent long range damage capability
  • Good at preventing enemies from fleeing
  • Effective at pulling monsters in dungeons and raids
  • Great crowd control abilities thanks to traps that cause damage, slow or even freeze enemies

Weaknesses:

  • Possesses very few melee abilities
  • Has a "Dead Zone" where neither ranged nor melee attacks can be used
  • Unable to heal self or party members

Eligible Races: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/night_elves/" target="_blank">Night Elf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/dwarves/" target="_blank">Dwarf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/orcs/" target="_blank">Orc</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/tauren/" target="_blank">Tauren</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/trolls/" target="_blank">Troll</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/blood_elves/" target="_blank">Blood Elf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/draenei/" target="_blank">Draenei</a>
Standard Bars: Health/Mana
Armor: Cloth, Leather, Mail (at level 40, with training)
Weapons: Axes, Daggers (with training), Guns or Bows, Crossbows (with training), Fist Weapons (with training), Polearms (with training), Staves (with training), Swords (with training), Thrown (with training), Two-Handed Axes (with training), Two-Handed Swords (with training)

Suitable Professions: Skinning and Leatherworking is a good combination for a hunter. At the beginning you will only be able to make items made of leather but later in the game, by the time you've learned to wear Mail armor you will have the chance to specialize in Dragonscale Leatherworking which produces mail items. Fishing + Cooking - get this if you are in a need of an alternative source of food for your Pets. Those professions are secondary which means you are not limited to picking just two of them. You can have them all if you wish.

[edit] Mage

Also see: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/mage_spells/">Mage Spells</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/build_suggestions_mage/">Talent Build Suggestions</a>

Masters of the elements and the arcane, mages are considered the heaviest hitters in terms of spellpower. With the ability to create and use portals to all the major cities as well as the skill to conjure food and water for the party, mages are useful facets to the party. Mages also carry many powerful area-of-effect attacks.

Class Role
When seeking someone to introduce monsters to a world of pain, the Mage is a good choice. With their elemental and arcane attacks, it's a safe bet something they can do won't be resisted by your chosen enemy. Damage is the name of the Mage game, and they do it well. Their arsenal includes some powerful crowd control spells, also, giving them the ability to keep hordes at bay -- in fact, these abilities can be used on the most common creatures in the game, thus making them extremely valuable for this purpose.

Strengths

  • Very effective in damaging multiple targets at once with powerful Area of Effect Damage Spells
  • Effective at escaping enemies with Blink, Frost Nova, and Ice Armor spells
  • Excellent long range damage capability
  • Can transport self and others to major cities using portals
  • Great at crowd control

Weaknesses

  • Restricted to wearing cloth armor
  • Poor melee capability and low hit points
  • Has no healing ability

Eligible Races: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/humans/" target="_blank">Human</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/gnomes/" target="_blank">Gnome</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/undead/" target="_blank">Undead</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/trolls/" target="_blank">Troll</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/blood_elves/" target="_blank">Blood Elf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/draenei/" target="_blank">Draenei</a>
Standard Bars: Health/Mana
Armor: Cloth
Weapons: Staves, Wands, Daggers (with training), Swords (with training)

Suitable Professions
Tailoring and enchanting can be especially good for cloth wearers because you would be able to create not only the type of armor you need but also large bags which add to the space in your inventory. By also being an Enchanter you will be able to increase the quality and effects on the armor you create for yourself. You could even make money out of it by enchanting items of other people.

Magic is powerful.
Magic is corrupting.
Magic is addicting.
Magic draws the denizens of the Twisting Nether to those that wield the arcane.

[edit] Paladin

Also see: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/paladin_spells/">Paladin Spells</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/build_suggestions_paladin/">Talent Build Suggestions</a>

The virtuous paladin are an exclusive to the Alliance and provide their protection and blessings wherever they go. They are sturdy and able to take the greatest of damage as well as providing healing and protective roles.

Class Role
Paladins are the consummate knights in shining armor, meant to be in the thick of things. Their ability to wear mail and plate armor allows them to stand toe to toe with monsters and take a beating. This is not the sole purpose of a Paladin, of course; their auras, seals, heals and resurrection spells also make them excellent support healers.

Strengths

  • Can wear the heaviest of armors and use most weapons
  • Can heal party members and resurrect others after battle
  • Can cast Auras and Blessings that provide useful buffs for other players
  • Can learn to summon a Warhorse mount at no cost
  • Can sacrifice themselves for the sake of the party to prevent a total group wipe

Weaknesses

  • Heavily dependant on mana for offensive and defensive abilities
  • No ranged capabilities, except to stop wounded opponents from fleeing
  • Limited abilities with which to draw enemy attacks

Eligible Races: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/humans/" target="_blank">Human</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/dwarves/" target="_blank">Dwarf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/blood_elves/" target="_blank">Blood Elf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/draenei/" target="_blank">Draenei</a>
Standard Bars: Health/Mana
Armor: Cloth, Leather, Mail, Plate (from trainer at level 40)
Weapons: One- and Two-handed Maces, One- and Two-handed Swords (with training), One- and Two-handed Axes, Polearms (with training)

Suitable Professions
Mining and Blacksmithing is a good combination that many warriors and paladins alike choose . It's good if you want to be able to make your own armor but Blacksmithing gets rather expensive at some point and might not always be worth the effort. Mining is perfect for gaining money fast, selling stacks of refined ore in the Auction House is a quick way to get more money.
Herbalism and Alchemy is also a nice combo, I've seen a lot of paladins with it. You will be able to produce buff potions for you and other people, sell them in the auction house to gain money. Herbs are not very easy to collect at the beginning but once you get to know more about the game as a whole it will become easier.

[edit] Priest

Also see: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/priest_spells/">Priest Spells</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/build_suggestions_priest/">Talent Build Suggestions</a>

Priests are the healers in World of Warcraft and no party is complete without a healer. The Priest class is the master of healing, crowd control, and hate control. Other classes such as the Shaman, Druid, and Paladin can heal, but not as well as the Priest. The Priest can also resurrect dead players along with the Shaman and Paladin. The Warlock also has the ability to resurrect, through the use of soul stones. The Priest has some buffs that can help party members. The Priest can even take control of humanoid monsters at higher character levels using Mind Control.

Class Role
With their dedication to their faith, the Priests of Azeroth mend and defend their fellow man. Healing and support is most assuredly the Priest's main draw. Additionally, they have crowd control abilities against the Undead that can save lives. Their Shadow powers are not to be ignored, though; a Shadow-specialized Priest can cause considerable damage if played well.

Strengths

  • Can heal party members and resurrect other players after battle
  • Is able to shield party and raid members from damage
  • Has powerful buffs
  • Can Fear enemies and Charm Humanoids
  • Can cast both Holy and Shadow spells

Weaknesses

  • Restricted to wearing cloth armor
  • Poor melee capabilities and low hit points
  • Heavily dependant on mana

Eligible Races: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/humans/" target="_blank">Human</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/night_elves/" target="_blank">Night Elf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/dwarves/" target="_blank">Dwarf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/undead/" target="_blank">Undead</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/trolls/" target="_blank">Troll</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/blood_elves/" target="_blank">Blood Elf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/draenei/" target="_blank">Draenei</a>
Standard Bars: Health/Mana
Armor: Cloth
Weapons: One-Handed Maces, Daggers, Staves, Wands

Suitable Professions
Similar to mages, Priests can only wear cloth armor so Tailoring and Enchanting is a good combination of professions for this class as well. Another good combo is Herbalism and Alchemy.

[edit] Rogue

Also see: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/rogue_spells/">Rogue Spells</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/build_suggestions_rogue/">Talent Build Suggestions</a>

Rogues thrive on surprising the enemy and catching them unprepared. They have extremely high damage output over a short amount of time. However with their weak damage taking abilities and their reliance on their energy meter they cannot last very long in sustained battles. They also have a wide array of crafty poisons and tricks they can used to aid them in battle.

Class Role
The stealthy Rogue is an up-close damage dealer. Like the Mage, they can rip through mobs quickly and brutally using their wide range of combination moves. They are also worthy scouts, being able to sneak past monsters if they are skilled enough to see what lies beyond. And there's no one better than a Rogue at the end of a dungeon when a locked chest or door stands between you and hard-earned riches.

Strengths

  • Stealth abilities allow the Rogue to reach places more easily than most other classes
  • Can create and use poisons to damage or slow enemies
  • Very high melee damage potential
  • Can pick locks
  • Effective in escaping battle with sprint, vanish, and blind

Weaknesses

  • No party buffs available
  • Restricted to wearing cloth and leather armor
  • No healing ability

Eligible Races: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/humans/" target="_blank">Human</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/dwarves/" target="_blank">Dwarf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/night_elves/" target="_blank">Night Elf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/orcs/" target="_blank">Orc</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/undead/" target="_blank">Undead</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/gnomes/" target="_blank">Gnome</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/trolls/" target="_blank">Troll</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/blood_elves/" target="_blank">Blood Elf</a>
Standard Bars: Health/Energy
Armor: Cloth, Leather
Weapons: Daggers, Thrown, Swords (with training), Bows (with training), Crossbows (with training), Maces (with training), Fist Weapons (with training), Guns (with training)

Suitable Professions
Skinning and Leatherworking is good but for a rogue perhaps a combination of Herbalism and Alchemy would work better. Since you won't have any healing spells and buffs you might use Alchemy to produce similar effects.

[edit] Shaman

Also see: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/shaman_spells/">Shaman Spells</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/build_suggestions_shaman/">Talent Build Suggestions</a>

Shaman are a multi-tasking class and provide good defense while providing many beneficial and offensive buffs and effects via droppable totems. Only one of each totem may be dropped at a time. Shaman also have the unique ability to self-ressurect, providing effective wipe-recovery.

Class Role
The old phrase "jack of all trades, master of none" is an excellent way to describe the Shaman; they are the only real "hybrid" class in World of Warcraft. While they do not excel at any one aspect of their repertoire, they function passing well when performing most tasked called upon by a party. Need a support healer? Looking for a secondary tank? After another damage-dealer? Have an empty slot that needs someone to support the group in general? The Shaman can provide. They have a number of utility spells as well that help make life easier for any party.

Strengths

  • Can heal themselves and resurrect other players after battle
  • Can transform into a Ghost Wolf, allowing for fast travel
  • Can use totems of earth, air, fire and water
  • Able to use instant cast damage spells
  • Can use spells to walk on water or breath underwater

Weaknesses

  • Most totems are easily destroyed when attacked directly
  • High dependence on mana pool for offense and survival
  • No long duration party buffs available

Eligible Races: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/orcs/" target="_blank">Orc</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/tauren/" target="_blank">Tauren</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/trolls/" target="_blank">Troll</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/draenei/" target="_blank">Draenei</a>
Standard Bars: Health/Mana
Armor: Cloth, Leather, Mail (with training)
Weapons: One-Handed Maces, Staves, Fist Weapons, One-Handed Axes (with training), Daggers (with training), Axes (with talents), Two-Handed Maces (with talents).

Suitable Professions
Suitable professions for a shaman are Skinning and Leatherworking. With leatherworking you will be able to create leather armor for yourself and later when you learn to equip Mail armor you can specialize in Dragonscale Leatherworking and make mail armor.
Another suitable combo of professions is Mining and Skinning. Here is how it would work. You will be Minner and Skinner up to level 40 when you learn to equip mail. At that level you would have gathered a good sum of money by selling ores and skins in the Auction House. Now you can give up on being a Skinner and take up Blacksmithing. It shouldn't be too difficult to train in Blacksmithing, buy some "low level" ores from the Auction House or go to a starting area and mine some.

[edit] Warlock

Also see: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/warlock_spells/">Warlock Spells</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/build_suggestions_warlock/">Talent Build Suggestions</a>

Warlocks were mages that delved too deeply into the roots of demonic power. Consumed by a lust for dark knowledge, they've tapped into chaotic magic from beyond the world. The Burning Legion now feeds them its powers, allowing them to channel destructive energies and call upon the powerful emissaries of their demon masters.

The Warlock is a more involved class to play. Warlocks have pets, many different spell combos, and a reagent component requirement for some of their spells. This means that it will take a bit more learning than some of the more straightforward classes. The Warlock has a lot of very cool and fun abilities including Eye of Kilrogg, Fear, Pets, and more. The Warlock is a very fun class to play once you figure things out.

Strengths

  • Possesses the ability to summon and control demons
  • Can create Healthstones for themselves or party members which heal life upon consumption
  • Can summon other party members using Ritual of Summoning
  • Can learn to summon a demonic mount at no cost
  • Are able to drain opponents life and use it to restore their own health

Weaknesses

  • Select spells and abilities require soulshards
  • Restricted to wearing cloth armor
  • Limited melee capability

Class Role
Warlocks have both powerful damage spells (primarily dealing over time) and debuff spells that work well in conjunction with each other and with the abilities of their groupmates. They have Curses for many occasions; in fact, they can easily be considered the best debuffers in the game. Their pets, too, help with the damage dealing and grant the Warlock extra abilities to put to use. They can also control crowds well with Seduction and Banish, and provide limited support in the form of their summoned stones.

Eligible Races: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/humans/" target="_blank">Human</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/orcs/" target="_blank">Orc</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/undead/" target="_blank">Undead</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/gnomes/" target="_blank">Gnome</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/blood_elves/" target="_blank">Blood Elf</a>
Standard Bars: Health/Mana
Armor: Cloth
Weapons: Daggers, Wands, Swords (with training), Staves (with training)

Suitable Professions
One of the best things about being a warlock is that you'll get a mount for free, so make sure you take up professions useful for you and not just for gold grinding. Tailoring and Enchanting or Alchemy and Herbalisms are especially beneficial combinations for this class.

How to obtain Soul Shards
Soul Shards are obtained by killing monsters with the Drain Soul Spells. They are required for certain spells and abilities. Note that you cannot get a soulshard from an enemy that doesn't give you any experience after you defeat it. So getting soul shards is always a bit of a challenge and you'll have to take up on monsters around your level to get one.

Demons
Warlocks can summon the following demons: Imp, Voidwalker, Succubus, Felhunter, Inferno.

[edit] Warrior

Also see: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/warrior_spells/">Warrior Spells</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/build_suggestions_warrior/">Talent Build Suggestions</a>

Warriors are fearless melee combatants. With their ability to wear the strongest armor and their high hit points they can without a doubt take a good beating before biting the dust. They can also pack a mean punch themselves up close with their 2-handed weapons and special attacks.

Class Role
The Warrior can be a defensive, shielded tank, a damage-dealing powerhouse, or a mixture of the two. Their abilities obviously pertain to the art of close combat; their stances carry with them different moves for different situations and party setups. All in all, the Warrior is one of the prime candidates to capture and hold the attention of creatures while they die to sword and spell.

Strengths

  • Able to use all armor and all weapons except wands
  • Very high total number of hit points
  • Great close range melee skills
  • Good at pulling, tanking, and dealing damage, due to different combat stances
  • Ability to taunt enemies off of other party members

Weaknesses

  • No healing ability available
  • Limited long range damage capability
  • Limited ability to buff party members

Eligible Races: <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/humans/" target="_blank">Human</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/dwarves/" target="_blank">Dwarf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/night_elves/" target="_blank">Night Elf</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/gnomes/" target="_blank">Gnome</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/orcs/" target="_blank">Orc</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/tauren/" target="_blank">Tauren</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/undead/" target="_blank">Undead</a>, and <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/trolls/" target="_blank">Troll</a>, <a href="http://wow.neoseeker.com/draenei/" target="_blank">Draenei</a>
Standard Bars: Health/Rage
Armor: Cloth, Leather, Mail, Plate (with training at lvl 40)
Weapons: All (except for wands).

Suitable Professions
Mining and Blacksmithing is good for warriors. Since they don't have any healing abilities just like the rogues, you might try being Alchemist & Herbalist, so you can create potions that provide healing and buffs.
