Races

The playable races in the land of Azeroth are broken into two factions; the Alliance, and the Horde.

The Alliance are composed of the Humans, the Night Elves, the Dwarves, the Gnomes and the Draenei while the Horde consist of the Orcs, the Trolls, the Tauren, the Blood Elves and the Undead.

The race you choose when creating a character determines your appearance, starting location, choice of class, varying starting statistics and unique racial abilities.

[edit] Humans

In the eastern continent of Azeroth the resilient Humans defend their Stronghold of Stormwind from enemy races. The Gnomes have built a tram linking their capital to that of the Dwarves and Gnomes, so friends are close at hand.

The devout Humans can be warriors, priests, rogues, paladins, mages, and warlocks.

Start Location: Elwynn Forest
Home City: Stormwind
Racial Mount: Horse

The racial abilities of the Human are:

Perception - active
Activate to dramatically increase stealth detection - Lasts 20 sec - 3 min cooldown

The Human Spirit - passive
Increase Spirit by 5%

Diplomacy - passive
10% bonus to faction point gain

Sword Specialization - passive
Humans get +5 to Sword skill

Mace Specialization - passive
Humans get +5 to Mace skill


[edit] Dwarves

The hardy dwarves have carved deeped cities in the mountainsides. In addition to having a tram in their central city to that of the Human's, they are also the closest race that a Night Elf is likely to discover.

The stalwart Dwarves can be warriors, priests, rogues, paladins, and hunters.

Racial Mount: Ram

The racial abilities of the Dwarf are:

Stoneform - active
While active, grants immunity to Bleed, Poison, and Disease effects. In addition, Armor increases by 5% and speed reduced to 70% of normal. Lasts 20 sec. - 3 min cooldown

Gun Specialization - passive
Dwarves get +5 to Gun Skill

Frost Resistance - passive
All Dwarves get +10 Frost Resistance

Find Treasure - passive
Activate to see treasure chests on mini map - lasts until canceled - no cooldown

The elusive Night Elves live atop the great tree Teldrassil off the western Kalimdor coast. Reclusive by nature, the Night Elve's starting area is far from any other races, including friendly races.

Long ago, the Night Elves swore off magic and the destruction it can cause. Night Elves can be warriors, rogues, priests, druids, and hunters.

Home City: Darnassus
Racial Mount: Nightsaber

The racial abilities of the Night Elf are:

Shadowmeld - active
Activate while immobile and out of combat to enter stealth mode - lasts until canceled - 10 sec cooldown

Shadowmeld - passive
Passively raises the level of active stealth of a druid or rogue by 1

Quickness - passive
Dodge chance increased by 1%

Wisp Spirit - passive
Become a wisp when dead with movement speed increase of 50% (25% faster than normal ghost)

Nature Resistance - passive
All Night Elves get +10 Nature Resistance

The brilliant gnomes work tirelessly to construct marvels of technology across Azeroth that vex other races. During the second war their absense from battle was due to an invasion of their home city, Gnomeregan, which was sadly lost.

The resilient Gnomes can be warriors, mages, warlocks and rogues.

Racial Mount: Mechano-Strider

The racial abilities of the Gnome are:

Escape Artist - active
Activate to break out of a Root or Snare effect - 1 sec cast - 1 min cooldown

Expansive Mind - passive
Increase Intelligence by 5%

Arcane Resistance - passive
All Gnomes get +10 Arcane Resistance

Engineering Specialization - passive
15 skill bonus to Engineering

The honorable orcs, settled in their new home of Durotar on the eastern coast of Kalimdor strive to settle their place in the world and rid themselves of the taint of the Burning Legion.

The brutish Orcs can be warriors, hunters, warlocks, rogues, and shaman.

Home City: Orgrimmar
Racial Mount: Wolf

The racial abilities of the Orc are:

Blood Fury - active
Activate to increase base melee attack power by 25% for 15 sec but take a 25% decrease in base melee attack power for 45 sec after Bloody Fury wears off - lasts 15 sec - 2 min cooldown.

Hardiness - passive
25% resistance to stun and knockout effects.

Command - passive
Pet melee damage increased by 5%.

Axe Specialization - passive
Orcs get +5 to Axe skill.

The fearsome undead are the unfortunate victims of the Burning Legion's scourge, now under Arthas' control. At the end of the second war the banshee Sylvannas Windrunner gathered those who wished revenge against Arthas and those who posed a threat to them and amassed a grand hall under the fallen city of Lordaeron, calling their new society the Forsaken.

Undead can be warriors, rogues, priests, warlocks, and mages.

Start Location: Tirisfal Glades
Home City: Undercity
Racial Mount: Undead Steed

The racial abilities of the Undead are:

Will of the Forsaken - active
Activate to become immune to Fear, Sleep, and Charm effects. Can also be used while already afflicted by Fear of Sleep - lasts 5 sec - 2 min cooldown

Cannibalize - active
Activate to regenerate 7% of total health every 2 sec. by consuming Humanoid or Undead corpses within 5 yds - lasts 10 sec - 2 min cooldown

Underwater Breathing - passive
Underwater breath lasts 300% longer than normal

Shadow Resistance - passive
All Undead get +10 Shadow Resistance

The mystical trolls originate from the eastern continent, but one tribe, the Darkspear tribe, formed an alliegance with Thrall and his orcish horde. Though exiled from their home in Stranglethorn vale, they now find a new home amoung the orcs in Durotar and the Echo Isles.

Trolls can be warriors, shaman, priests, rogues, mages, and hunters.

Start Location: Durotar
Home City: Orgrimmar
Racial Mount: Raptor

The racial abilities of the Troll are:

Berserking - active
Activate after being the victim of a critical strike to increase attack and casting speed by 25% but take 10% more damage in the process - lasts 20 sec - 2 min cooldown

Regeneration - passive
10% health regen bonus, 10% active in combat

Beast Slaying - passive
5% damage bonus to Beasts

Throwing Specialization - passive
+5 to Throwing Weapon skill

The huge beast-like creatures known are tauren like in the grassy plains of central Kalimdor in a generally peaceful existance with nature. The hardy tauren is a worthy fighter though and difficult to fell in battle.

The noble Tauren can be warriors, hunters, shaman, and druids.

Home City: Thunder Bluff
Racial Mount: Kodo

The racial abilities of the Tauren are:

War Stomp - active
Activate to stun up to 5 opponents within 8 yards - lasts 2 sec - 2 min cooldown

Endurance - passive
Max Health increased by 5%

Cultivation - passive
15 skill bonus to Herbalism

Nature Resistance - passive
All Tauren get +10 Nature Resistance
